Dairy alternatives like almond, coconut, and cashew milk have been popping up in supermarkets for years, but one of the new kids on the block – enter oat milk – is making its presence known in more than just the refrigerator aisle.
Frozen desserts made from oat milk are fairly new when it comes to non-dairy ‘ice cream’. The frozen dessert innovation from Oatly specifically is making quite the impact though, with their plant-based product coming in – you guessed it – plant-based packaging! Oatly’s frozen dessert is also dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan, as well as nut-free, soy-free, and kosher.
In 2020, Oatly made the conscious decision to introduce their frozen dessert to the world in packaging that focused on sustainability. Sentinel™ is a first of its kind; eco-friendly paper-based packaging made with an innovative renewable coating derived from sugarcane. At Stanpac, we are thrilled to offer Sentinel™ Renewable Ice Cream Packaging in our product line up.
Sentinel™ paperboard is also made from virgin fibre, certified by SFI (the Sustainable Forestry Initiative), meaning the trees that were used to make the packaging come from responsibly managed forests.
A driving factor for consumer purchasing behaviours – specifically in the vegan market – is the environment. Moving to plant-based packaging is the logical move for brands looking to promote practices that help to alleviate some of the negative impacts of packaging on the environment.
“We are pleased to be a part of helping Oatly expand its commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing through the use of Sentinel™. Oatly’s switch reinforces what we are hearing in the marketplace that the use of renewable materials is a value that is central to many brands. We believe it is not a trend, but the early stages of a total change in the marketplace for responsible companies.” Chris Johns, Vice President of Paperboard Sales & Marketing for Evergreen Packaging
